This was a commission to make replacement paintings for a Victorian faux "Adams" ceiling in Mayfair, London.

Oil on fine linen canvas, approx.: 44x52cm ovals, 73x34cm rectangle.

They show various mythological scenes of famous lovers; the commission also entailed the research necessary to determine these new scenes as exactly as possible. The paintings were then aged to match the original 1869 works still in place. Here they are shown here in the first state before being aged.
