The Wallace Collection,
affectionately known as "London's best kept secret", this is far and away the best collection of 19th connoiseurship. An absolutely sublime display of the finest artworks, including paintings, sculpture, furniture, ceramics, arms and armour. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Go.
The Victoria and Albert Museum,
Situated in Kensington, London:
holds the original William Hamilton cartoons, as well as the most superb collection of all things decorative.

Patrick Woodroffe had a book out in 1986, called "A Closer Look". He descibes many methods and mediums and was a siginificant starting point for my learning to paint. Plus he is a genius.
